Due to demand for better educational institutes the Muslim Society of Leeds established Leeds Muslim College in January 2006 and has set up the Islamic Studies Department to provide traditional educational programmes for children in a contemporary setting. Presently the College is using temporary premises of a local primary school in Harehills and running many educational programmes for the Muslim children of Leeds . Presently the college offers:
- Pre-Madrassa Early Years Nursery to be managed by a qualified nursery nurse for children aged 3-5.
- Qur'anic Phonetics, Memorisation of Islamic prayers, Memorisation of selected chapters of the Holy Qur'an, Urdu language for beginners, Basic Islamic studies, and Qur'anic recitation for children aged 5-13.
- Four GCSE's programme over two years in the following subjects: Arabic language, Urdu language, Islamic studies, Religious studies (Judaism and Christianity) including lessons on Fiqh and Qur'anic translation. For children aged 13+
- Hifz Course (Memorisation of the Holy Qur'an). This course is for children who want to mentally learn the entire Qur'an, and this course is run between 3 – 5 years depending on the capability of the child.
Note: All staff at Leeds Muslim College are CRB checked and our educational programmes are open to all children regardless of race, religion or gender.
